Overview
MacNotch is a macOS utility that runs entirely on your Mac. We are committed to your privacy and designed the app to work locally. Your data stays on your device.
Data we do not collect
MacNotch does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. The app does not include analytics, telemetry, or tracking of any kind. There are no user accounts within MacNotch itself.
macOS permissions
MacNotch requests certain macOS permissions only when you enable the corresponding feature. All data accessed through these permissions stays on your device:
- Accessibility: window snap zones, Screen Clean, optional AI Coding (Beta) actions that send keystrokes to your terminal, and optional observation of notification banners.
- Full Disk Access: so the Notifications module can read your local Notification Center history. Add MacNotch in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access, enable it, then quit and reopen MacNotch. Data stays on your Mac.
- Bluetooth: reading connected device names and battery levels.
- Calendar & Reminders: displaying upcoming events and tasks.
- Location: fetching local weather data.
- Camera: powering the mirror widget.
- Automation (AppleScript): controlling media playback in Spotify, Apple Music, and other players, and some Dashboard quick toggles.
- Screen Recording (optional): richer window thumbnails in Snap Zones when macOS allows capture; snapping still works if you skip this.
You can revoke any of these permissions at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
Translation feature
The Translation module connects to the LLM provider you configure (OpenAI or a local Ollama instance). Text you translate is sent to that provider according to their privacy policy. MacNotch does not route this data through its own servers.
Code hosting
If you add a personal access token or app password for GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket, it is stored on your Mac and used only to request data from that provider when you refresh or open the module. MacNotch does not send those credentials to its own servers.
Licensing
When you purchase a license or start a trial, your email address and payment information are processed by our payment provider (Stripe). MacNotch stores a license key locally on your device to validate your purchase. We do not have access to your full payment details.
If you use MacNotch through Setapp, licensing is handled entirely by Setapp under their own privacy policy.
Website analytics
The macnotch.io website uses Vercel Analytics, which collects anonymous, aggregated page-view data with no cookies and no personal identifiers. The app itself contains no analytics.
Third-party services
- Stripe: payment processing ( Stripe Privacy Policy).
- Vercel: website hosting and anonymous analytics ( Vercel Privacy Policy).
- Sparkle: in-app update checks fetched from macnotch.io; no personal data is sent.
- Setapp: if applicable ( Setapp Privacy Policy).
Children's privacy
MacNotch is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of MacNotch after changes constitutes acceptance.
